Bony to Beastly’s finally cookin’!

Marco Cooking Bony to Beastly Eat More

Update: I’ll leave this post alive, but beta was a complete success. Read the full Bony to Beastly story here, and check out the finished program here.

The holidays are over and our skinny man’s muscle manual is coming along well. We’ve got a lot of the content written up, a ton of great recipes, and this weekend we’re filming instructional videos that will explain the workouts. Stay tuned!

Our 4 month ectomorph transformation experiment results:

And Marco’s officially joined the Bony to Beastly / Lean to Mean team. If you don’t think he looks all that much like an ectomorph that’s okay — we don’t blame you. I met Marco back in high school and he was just as skinny as I was. Boy was I ever surprised to see him a few months ago at 210 pounds!

Here’s the skinny Marco that I knew in high school:

Can’t wait to see that guide! I’m just finished my first week of workouts starting at 5″10 and 133lbs. Hoping to get to at least 150lbs or so, maybe a little less. Think I’m aiming for a Brad Pitt “Snatch” type of body. I’m starting out with a 3-Day split of Chest/Triceps, Legs, and Back/Biceps initially, but I’ll have to wait until Monday to see if I’ve made any gains. Keep up the good work!

Ah that’s awesome Greg! It should be ready soon, but we want to get some testing done first to make sure it’s really as perfect as can be. We know it works really damn well, but we want to make sure that people understand it, like it, and can realistically follow it. I’m sending you an email 🙂

This is a very inspirational transformation. I am trying to beat my bad skinny genetics too. I am currently at 5’6″ and 140 lbs and trying to get muscular in the next six months. I am trying out Derek’s 12 week bulking program on bodybuilding for starters but would be very interested in learning about you routine as well! Once again congratulations on the transformation and giving me some confidence 🙂

  5. Brent on February 7, 2012 at 3:14 pm

Skinny here too, but with a gut- which looks awful on skinny dudes haha. And I would give anything to go from no ass to huge ass 🙂
    Send me any advice!

    • W. Shane Duquette on February 7, 2012 at 7:53 pm

Ah skinny-fat — I’ve been there. A couple years ago I was eating 7000 calories a day for a little while in a misguided attempt to finally put on some muscle. Which is a higher priority to you right now? Dropping the gut or packing on some muscle? Doing both at once will make accomplishing either a much longer process. If you’d like you could follow this plan, and then a couple weeks from now when you’ve ditched the gut we can start talking about putting on some serious muscle Bony to Beastly style? 🙂

    Hey,

this is my 8th month since I started working out, I saw your lean to mean program a couple of months ago, and that was really inspirational, with great results. I’m 5’9″ and I was 123.5 pounds 8 months ago, now I’m 138.68, and I really have a certain difficulty in gaining weight and muscles. I’m thinking about adding supplements to my diet. Do you guys have any suggestions?

    Thanks

  7. B on February 8, 2012 at 6:02 pm

I’m very glad to hear you guys are putting a full guide together. I definitely struggle to put on (and keep) muscle, would love to have some guidance that’s relevant for skinny dudes. Any more of those emails going around? 😉

I’ve typed my e-mail wrong, on my last comment. I’d appreciate if you sent the e-mail to me one more time.

    Hey guys,

    Greetings from Ireland!

Got directed here from a YouTube video and your site is great.
I literally began going to the gym today for the first time, was told I was an ectomorph, and that I needed to start eating 3000 calories a day with like 300grams of protein. Any advice would be greatly appreciated – I will be doing before and after photos also. I’m 6ft and 145lbs.

    Cheers,
    Carl

    • W. Shane Duquette on March 14, 2012 at 10:26 pm

      Hey Carl!
Congrats on getting to the gym! I hope it works out!
Haha it isn’t as much protein as it seems. If you eat 3000 calories of balanced meals that are roughly 30% protein you’ll hit 225g, and that’ll be all you need. If you had a very typical 150 pound body (15% body fat, maybe 5’10) and a very typical lifestyle (some walking + a desk job) then 3000 would be good for gaining weight.

We’ll be starting up a new blog for Bony to Beastly within the month, targeted at one person: a skinny guy looking to build a big healthy strong physique. I think you’ll love it.

In the meantime you could check out Marco’s blog. There’s some good stuff on there!

And because you asked for advice: buy fish oil and have it every morning and every night. If you’re affluent buy Krill oil. It’s the most underrated and effective supplement for building an impressive physique. It’s incredibly good for you, too.
